A Note from Ms. MacEwan

Dear Cunniff Families,

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend! When we come back on Tuesday, we will really be in the final stretch of the year.

This week, students worked in their classrooms to create Memorial Day tributes by creating (paper) poppy wreaths. We are so grateful to everyone who has served, and we will be thinking of their families this weekend.

My best,

Julia

Field Day: Friday, May 29th, 2026

Our annual Field Day is just around the corner on Friday, May 29th! We are incredibly excited for a day filled with school spirit, teamwork, and fun.

To keep the day safe and focused entirely on the kids, we will not be sharing a specific schedule of events publicly (following the same format as last year).

We love that cheering on our students is a cherished Cunniff tradition! To ensure a safe, smooth, and secure environment for all of our students and staff, we kindly ask that all non-PTO volunteer spectators follow these guidelines:
  • Stay Outside the Fence: Please cheer on our athletes from the outside of the fence surrounding the field.
  • Keep the Parking Lot Clear: Do not enter the parking lot, as this space is being transformed into an active event zone for the day.
  • Give the Kids Space: Help us keep transitions smooth by allowing teachers and staff plenty of room to guide their classes between stations.

Thank you so much for your cooperation and support in making this a safe, successful, and memorable day for our students!

Community Survey

As we come to the end of another school year, we are reflecting on the successes and challenges of the past year to help inform decisions for next year. Watertown Public Schools is dedicated to building a stronger community at the Cunniff, and your voice is essential!

Please take a moment to complete our brief, anonymous engagement survey to help us improve our outreach efforts. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete and will close at the end of May.

If you’d like a follow-up, you’ll have the option to leave your email at the start!

Clothing

In the spirit of sustainability and community support (and keeping our hallways clear), we have organized all unclaimed Lost & Found items into size-specific grab-bags.

Families can request a bag in their child's size - no questions asked. This is a great way to grab extra layers for next winter or replace those missing essentials from this year - completely free! Whether you're looking to save a trip to the store or could use a little extra help stocking your child's closet for next winter, these bags are here for you. Check in with our Family Engagement Facilitator, Amanda to pick up a bag.

Understanding Our Differences

Watertown Public Schools Uniquely You: 3rd Grade Assembly:
Mission Inclusion: Becoming Barrier Detectives

As part of Watertown Public Schools’ “Uniquely You” initiative—a district-wide celebration of inclusion, belonging, and the differences that make our community stronger—our 3rd graders will take part in a special interactive assembly during the week after Global Accessibility Awareness Day (May 21). This event helps students see how every person’s identity and perspective adds value to our school community.

In partnership with Understanding Our Differences (UOD), and funded by a Watertown Community Foundation Grant all WPS 3rd grade students will participate in an interactive assembly, beginning with a brief introduction and then rotating through engaging, hands-on stations where they will become Barrier Detectives, explore Inclusive Communication (including ASL, Braille, and communication boards), and discover Assistive Technology tools that support access and independence. Throughout the experience, students will learn how to notice and remove structural and behavioral barriers, include others in meaningful ways, and help create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and included.

Our goal is simple but powerful: to nurture a school community where every child feels a genuine sense of belonging and understands that our differences are what make us stronger.

Cunniff 3rd Graders will have their assembly on Thursday, May 28th!

Here is a link to a pre-visit and post Visit: Parent Guide - Mission Inclusion if you would like to fill it out.
