Dear Cunniff Families,
It's really starting to feel like we are reaching the final stretch - we have five and a half weeks of school left, and a lot of learning and fun to pack in! Please make sure you are aware of when your child's classroom is having any special events, and reach out to your child's classroom teacher with any questions.
Please read through for information on upcoming events, and have a wonderful weekend!
My best,
Julia

As you know, we are a neighborhood school, which means that a LOT of our neighbors either attend the Cunniff, attended at some point, will attend in the future, or are simply just Cunniff adjacent.
Please keep this in mind during arrival and dismissal each day. Please do not block any driveways on Warren Street, even for a few moments. Our relationships with our Warren Street neighbors is very important, and we need your help to make sure that everyone is happy and working together to get our students to and from school safely. Thank you for making sure you are not blocking anyone's driveway.

We appreciate the community’s ongoing efforts to make our morning arrivals as smooth as possible. To ensure the safety of every student and to help traffic move efficiently, please keep the following Drop-and-Go protocols in mind for the Warren Street lane:
Passenger-Side Exit Only: Students may only exit vehicles on the curb-side (passenger side). Exiting into the active traffic lane is a significant safety hazard. If you have multiple children, we ask that they all exit from the passenger side.
Drivers Must Remain in Vehicles: The Drop-and-Go lane is for active drop-off only. If your student requires assistance with bags or equipment, please park on one of the side streets around the school rather than utilizing the flow lane.
No U-Turns: For the safety of our neighborhood and crossing guards, U-turns on Warren Street are prohibited.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our morning arrival safe for all students and staff.

As we come to the end of another school year, we are reflecting on the successes and challenges of the past year to help inform decisions for next year. Watertown Public Schools is dedicated to building a stronger community at the Cunniff, and your voice is essential!
Please take a moment to complete our brief, anonymous engagement survey to help us improve our outreach efforts. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete and will close at the end of May.
If you’d like a follow-up, you’ll have the option to leave your email at the start!

In the spirit of sustainability and community support (and keeping our hallways clear), we have organized all unclaimed Lost & Found items into size-specific grab-bags.
Families can request a bag in their child's size - no questions asked. This is a great way to grab extra layers for next winter or replace those missing essentials from this year - completely free! Whether you're looking to save a trip to the store or could use a little extra help stocking your child's closet for next winter, these bags are here for you. Check in with our Family Engagement Facilitator, Amanda to pick up a bag.

Thank you for providing your input for our class placement process for the 26-27 school year. Our internal teams will be working hard between now and the end of the June to create balanced classroom communities for next year.
We have received some questions about teacher moves (which teachers are on which teams), and so I want to share that we do not share specific placement information until families are informed of which classroom their child(ren) will be in until mid-July. However, each group of students will have a chance to meet next year's teachers in a group format at the end of this school year. Students will learn who the teaching team is, and will also hear about all of the exciting things next year has in store for them.
We have an incredible team of teachers at every grade level, and our staff make deliberate decisions about placement based on a complex matrix of factors.

We’re collecting new and gently used children’s books for our upcoming Book Giveaway in June!
We are looking for:
📖 Picture books/Early Reader books
📖 Books in world languages
📖 High-interest books for elementary students (ex.
I Survived, Who Would Win, graphic novels)
📍 Drop books in collection bins outside each school entrance
❤️ The more books we receive, the more stories students can bring home to read during the summer!
Thank you for supporting our readers!

We invite you to attend the 2nd Annual Watertown Diversity and Belonging Celebration at Filippello Park! This event takes place on the first Thursday in June each year. This year, it’s June 4, 2026, 5:30-7:30pm. All Watertown families are invited to come, bring a picnic dinner, enjoy an evening of live music, games, ice cream, a bouncy house and more. Our musical performances this year feature our talented WHS Jazz band, WMS Choir and a faculty band!
This event was established in 2025 as a way for families to come together and celebrate another year of wonderful work by our students and the caregivers who support them. The WPS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Office Organized this event in collaboration with the WPS Diversity and Belonging Councils, Watertown Community Foundation, Watertown Parks and Recreation Dept, WPS Fine Arts/Performing Arts Dept.
