A Note from Ms. MacEwan
Dear Cunniff Families,

Our first snow day of the year, and one week closer to February Break! Because of the snow day, our 100th Day of School is now Monday, February 10.

We have several important things either currently happening or on the horizon:

  • Our 5 Essentials Survey: Every student, staff member, and family have been asked to fill out this important survey that gives us crucial feedback. Filling out the survey should only take a few minutes, and we are eager to get this data. We are hoping for a family participation rate of over 90% - if we get there, we will be able to welcome a special visitor to the Cunniff to celebrate!
  • You can access the family survey here: http://survey.5-essentials.org/watertown/survey/parent/

  • LITERACY NIGHT is this Tuesday, February 11 from 6p - 7:30p. All are welcome!

  • March Conferences are on the horizon. You will receive sign-up information via ParentSquare the week of February 24th. Conferences will take place on March 6, 7, 10 and 11.

  • The Cunniff Multicultural Fair will take place on the evening of Thursday, March 20 from 6 - 7:30pm. Our Diversity and Belonging Committee will be sharing more information in the coming weeks All are welcome!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Julia

Cunniff Literacy Week 2025
Literacy Week
Literacy Week Details
Tuesday, February 11: Students and staff are invited to wear shirts/sweatshirts with words on them.

Tuesday, February 11 - LITERACY NIGHT: Please join us for a fun family Literacy evening at the Cunniff from 6p - 7:30p. All are welcome!

Wednesday, February 12: We will be welcoming author Thyra Heder for two read aloud sessions with our students! We are thrilled to have Ms. Heder at the Cunniff - you can check out her work here. HUGE shout-out to our wonderful PTO for helping us make this visit happen.

Thursday, February 13: Book Character/Leader Dress-Up Day! Students and staff are invited to come to school dressed up as their favorite book character or leader (no face coverings, please!).

Cool Cougar Fridays!
We had fun today showing out in our Cunniff pride!

Next Friday, February 14, we are back to our whole-school dance breaks!

Cold Weather & Recess
As we experience some of the coldest days of the year, I want to share what our process is for determining if students should go outside for recess. We turn to our district nursing department for guidance, but our general rule of thumb is that if the "feels like" temperature outside is below 23 degrees Fahrenheit, our wonderful nurse, Jen Cullen, will advise an indoor recess.

Please make sure you are sending your students to school with appropriate cold weather gear (coats, gloves/mittens, hats, scarves), so that they can comfortably enjoy outdoor recess. We strongly recommend labeling your student's clothing/winter gear with their name!

Support Children in Need
The Department of Children and Families is seeking to keep Watertown children in their
schools and communities. In order to accomplish this, DCF is looking for Watertown parents
who would consider opening their homes and hearts to a student in need of short-term
care.

Please complete this brief survey if you are interested in opening your home and your
heart to a student in need.
