Principal's Letter

Dear Cunniff Families,

On behalf of the faculty, I want to begin by saying, “Thank you” for the effort that went into honoring teachers last week.  The faculty enjoyed all that was done to show how much they are appreciated each day.  PTO president Lee Haley did an amazing job organizing this.

A final round of student assessment is beginning.  Students in grades K-5 will be participating in i-Ready testing and benchmark assessments in literacy and math.   This is a busy yet exciting time as we prepare students for the transition to the next grade!

The Spring Scholastic Book Fair begins tomorrow -  Monday, May 13th and will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please see the attached document for the time your child’s classroom will be visiting the Book Fair.  Scholastic Book Fair

We’re looking forward to the Fine Arts, Fitness and Family Literacy Night which will take place tomorrow evening from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, rain or shine.   Various activities will take place throughout the school.  Please see the attached flyer for additional details. The Book Fair will also be open during this time.       FFFL Night Schedule for Families

As you are aware, our librarian Mrs. Walsh has been out and Mrs. Bersani has been substituting in her place. Mrs. Walsh was scheduled to return last Monday. Her mother passed away recently and as a result, Mrs. Walsh has decided to stay out for the remainder of the school year.  We look forward to her return in September.  We are grateful that Ms. Bersani is able to stay as a long-term substitute until the school year ends.

Music teacher, Ms. Ward will not return to her position in September.  Ms. Ward has decided to pursue a degree in Severe Special Needs and will be attending school full-time in the fall.  We wish her the best!  The music position has been posted and we will be conducting interviews during the next few weeks.

The placement process is in its final revision phase.  As you are aware, Mrs. Tanguay will be teaching grade two in September and Mrs. Barry will be teaching grade five.  Mrs. Tanguay will be moving her classroom closer to the grade two team and Ms. Breen will be moving her classroom to the wing of the building so that she can be with the grade one team.

The deadline for students to submit entries for the Cunniff School logo is Friday, May 17th.  The student's artwork selected will be featured in our Responsive Classroom/Responsive School banner and poster.

The fifth-grade car wash will take place on Saturday, May 18th in the Cunniff parking lot.  We hope that you get a chance to stop buy in support of our students.

MCAS testing in ELA and Mathematics is complete. The Science, Technology, and Engineering component will take place for students in grade five on Tuesday, May 21st and Thursday, May 23rd.

A reminder that Wednesday, May 15th is an early release day with a 12:15 dismissal.  Lunch will be served and there is Extended Day.  Teachers will be participating in professional development activities.

Looking ahead, we will be hosting a Memorial Day assembly on Friday, May 24th.  Details to follow. There is no school on Monday, May 27th - Memorial Day.    Please continue to check our school calendar for field trip dates and other important events taking place.

I wish all of our Cunniff mothers, a happy Mother’s Day!

Warm regards,

Mena Ciarlone, Principal
