Principal's Letter

Dear Cunniff Families,

I want to begin this week’s newsletter by acknowledging with gratitude all of ur Veterans, past and present.  Veterans Day has remained a day when we stand united as one grateful nation to recognize and thank all who answered the call to military service. The service of our veterans spans the entire length of our country’s proud existence.

We have a short week of school. Parent and teacher conferences begin on Wednesday evening.

Thursday, November 14 is an early release day with a 12:15 dismissal for students.  We will utilize an early lunch schedule and there is Extended Day. Afternoon parent & teacher conferences will take place from 1:00 - 2:30.

Please join me in welcoming two Title I tutors who will be joining our faculty this week. Kevin Boguski will be our Title I tutor in mathematics and Juanita Waldrip will provide tutoring in reading. They will each be working 18 hours per week at Cunniff supporting students needing to master foundational skills in math and reading.

Three of the five Little Free Libraries have been installed around the Cunniff grounds. A little free library is a free book exchange.  It belongs to everyone and everyone can use it! Our reading teachers have been busy defining the process for use so that we can make students and families aware of how to take, return, and or donate a book from the Little Free Library that is set up for each grade level. If students  see something they would  like to read, they can take it. When they are finished, they can keep it, share it with a friend, or return to the grade level container (labeled container located at entrances to building). Students can choose a book before school,  after school, or any time school is not in session.

It’s up to everyone to keep this library full of good reads!  Send in gently used books to share. Check for public library barcodes to make sure that they do not belong to public libraries. Please place your gently used books into the barrels located near the door your child enters/exits the building.  This will enable us to monitor what goes into the Little Free Libraries. The ribbon-cutting ceremonies, which include the opening of each for book circulation, will take place during the week of November 18 according to this schedule.  During this time, students will be given a bookmark highlighting key aspects of the process.

Assistant Superintendent - Dr. Theresa McGuinness visits on Wednesday and will be spending the day with us.  School Committee member - John Portz is scheduled to spend the morning with us as well.

Looking ahead, Tuesday, November 19 is an early-release day with a 12:15 dismissal and Extended Day.  There is a Noon dismissal on Wednesday, November 27 - the start of our Thanksgiving recess. Students return to school on Monday, December 2.

Enjoy the week!

Kind regards,

Mena Ciarlone
